Customers said this dial indicator offers excellent value, with praise for its easy-to-read black face and smooth operation. Most find it accurate and reliable for daily machining work. However, some reported quality control issues including sticking mechanisms, broken components upon arrival, and durability concerns.

I have used this model indicator daily in the worst conditions.I indicate parts sometimes 4 or 5 times a shift.I keep 3 of them in my roving tool box. After 3 years of use I retired my original set and bought 3 new ones..I handed out the old ones to the apprentice machinists and there still going strong.A little worse for wear but still holding there accuracy.I've been making chips for 40 odd years and have the high end Starrett and Mitutoyo Sylvac indicators for high end precision work. That being said if you need a daily use roughing indicator these do just fine.I don't want to run a 300 or 400 dollar indicator on rough scaly stock its just not smart. These are precision instruments that require a little care in there use and storage.Keep them in there box when not in use.Yeah it takes a little more time to set up but they are protected.I work in the turbine industry and I haven't had a part fail QC because of these indicators.
This is my second Fowler indicator I have purchased as I dropped my first one and broke it :( (my fault) as I was very pleased with my first one I ordered another one along with this awesome clockwise tools base and am very happy. I used this indicator to indicate parts straight and to check tolerances on threads. Great product will buy more Fowler stuff in the future!
I ordered this specifically because the pictures showed the smaller hand reading .0 through .9 instead of .1/.6 through .0/.5. I'm using these to teach on a large mill where your HMI is frequently well over eight feet from your dial, being ready to read at a distance was important for me. If u didn't need dials tomorrow, I'd return these. They're not what u ordered. Zero stars should really be an option.
best dial for the price.
An excellent easy to read indicator.
Used for z surface leveling of workpieces on cnc router.
Works great. Pairs well with mag base.
Thos dial indacator works great and is a percission indacator
Awesome dial indicator, worked as intended for backlash and what not, great quality.
Smooth operation
will have to see measuring some shims or block. but really for my purposes i'll be shocked if something wrong.
I don't have a high dollar gauge to compare if it is as accurate, but it works well and does what I need from it.
Quality item and easy to use
I bought this indicator as a back up when running more than one machine, but now I think I will be pairing it along side my Mitutoyo while making gear blanks. One indicator held farther out than the other to swap between the two for inside boring and outside turning operations without having to readjust the single holder. The first measurement I made with this indicator was for the final pass while facing off a gear, and the result was as accurate as my caliper could measure. It looks and feels like something the manufacturer was proud of, and I am quite happy with my purchase.
Nice for the price
Very smooth dial indicator and the orange on black makes it very easy to read even in odd places.
Contento con mi compra
I work in a machine shop and decided to give this indicator a try. Upon arrival, the travel was extremely gritty. I've tried giving it a thorough cleaning to no avail. This indicator also has a hard time repeating when checked against another Mitutoyo indicator. I've tried calling the company to see if they can fix or replace but can't get anyone to answer the phone. Our in house quality control is also telling me it only reads within .002 accuracy which is not acceptable in my shop. Save your money and buy a quality indicator. I love the design and looks, but the function is what is important, and this indicator does not function.
I work full time as CNC machinist. I'm no pro, but for the money, Fowler makes a good product. I know it's not made in the USA, but some of us are poor and can't afford $300 measuring tools. I use this dial several times a week and it's always stayed accurate.
Both of them are sticking right out of the box
The action is very smooth. I've used it, and am very happy.
For checking crankshaft end play and piston to deck height this works very well
Good product
When I looked at other micrometers they came with a back cover and a back cover with lug for attaching to other things. I assumed this one had both. It does not. It only has the back cover with lug. If you want to lay it on something flat or mount it to something flat, that's not an option. My only complaint. Otherwise everything is as expected.
Bought to use on my deck bridge. Works great.
Mine tends to stick a little between .096 and .014 while relaxing, but doesnt affect operation. Very easy to read and doesnt whine or scrape during travel. Just my luck melted a chip into the lens within 5 minutes of unboxing.
lasted the same amount of time as a cheap chinese made product.I had expected so much more from Fowler. Time to move on I suppose.
I'll likely go through an indicator or two a year so it's good to find one that's precise and under $30
As stated, I am using this to set up and/or re-calibrate table saws, jointer, planer, fence systems, etc. I wanted something that would give me repeatable and accurate results, without forking over $1xx or more. This isn't a Starret or Mitutoyo, but for my needs, it is way more than I need. I'm checking for flatness over surfaces, and I attach this to a Noga arm.Pros - relatively repeatable. It returns to where it was "zero'd". The dial action is smooth and the plunger has very little play.Cons - no, it cannot be expected to be perfect, as there is some lateral play with the plunger. Also, it is not rock solid perfect, but I have yet to find the dial indicator that is.I'm very happy with the price vs. performance ratio at this time.
I love the black face on this it is easy to read. very accurate
